The feed-in tariff (FIT) has been providing payments to owners of electricity-generating renewable energy technologies since 2010 to promote the uptake of renewable, low carbon electricity generation technologies. The generous initial rates of FIT meant that the uptake of solar panels has been faster than expected and the government has since decided that the rates for solar PV have to be cut to control cost.
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a government backed financial incentive to encourage individuals, communities and businesses to switch their source heating from fossil fuels to a carbon neutral, renewables energy such as wood fuel (biomass), solar thermal or air source heat pump.
