Glasgow’s energy efficient prototype housing award nomination
A housing project in Glasgow has been nominated for two awards after becoming a prototype in building excellence. The goal of the project was to produce the first energy-efficient, highly insulated prototype houses in the area.
The project is a finalist in two categories of the Scottish Home Awards 2011, shortlisted for the Environmental Excellence Award and nominated for an Innovation in Housing Award. It is hoped that the high acclaim the buildings have received so far will push towards similar projects on a larger scale.
The prototype includes efficient heating systems, high levels of air tightness and insulation and high solar usage, amongst others. The houses involved exceed the standards set out by the industry by far.
Willie Doherty, Managing Director of City Building, says,
“If we can realise our vision of rolling out these attractive, comfortable and energy efficient homes in Glasgow and beyond, it will play a major part in helping Scotland to meet its carbon reduction targets. By changing the way we approach housebuilding, Scotland can look forward to an environmentally friendly future.”
