UK first to mandate carbon reporting for publicly listed companies
In a move hoped to enable investors to clearly see which companies are managing the long-term costs of their greenhouse gas emissions, all businesses listed on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange will have to report their greenhouse gas emissions levels starting April 2013.
It is estimated that CO2 emissions will be reduced by up to four million tonnes by 2021.
Secretary of State for Department of Energy and Climate Change, Edward Davey said:
“Energy efficiency is a no brainer. It saves money for businesses whilst cutting carbon to help us meet our climate targets. The introduction of mandatory reporting will build on the regulatory framework established by the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme for the largest energy users.”
